1)  Got milk?

Dairy products are a great source of Vitamin D, which is an essential nutrient to strong, healthy bones. Weakened bones place more stress on the joints which leads to joint pain. Eggs and Sardines are also great sources of Vitamin D. If these foods are not consistently in your diet consider taking a Vitamin D supplement. Vitamin D3 is the most popular form of D. Also taking a whole food multivitamin supplement is beneficial.

2) Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Fish Oil supplements have become quite the rage over the last decade. They have a high concentration of Omega 3’s in them. Omega 3’s are essential for your ideal health. Omega 3’s are also important to maintain healthy joints. The substance that cushions the bones in the joints is called “structural fat”. This type of fat is made up of Omega 3 fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid, or GLA. Taking Krill Oil is the best form of Omega that you can take. GLA is found in the seeds of certain plants like evening borage, primrose, hemp, and black currants. You can also buy the oils of the seeds as a supplement. It’s important to get a high quality supplement when choosing what to take.

3) Hydrotherapy

A nice warm bath is not only relaxing but it will relieve the pressure on your joints and muscles. Add some Epson Salts to the water and massage your joints to increase the blood flow.

4)  R.I.C.E

This acronym stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Upon the first occurrence of  joint pain, use of this time honored method will ease the inflammation and decrease your joint pain.

5) Exercise

When selecting an exercise, choose one that allows you to move within the limits of your pain and does not cause further pain to the joints. That said, sometimes joint pain can be relieved by minor exercise and stretching. However exercise can increase the strength and flexibility of your joints, thus preventing potential joint pain. Exercise in a pool of water is very beneficial with less stress on your joints.

6) Weight Loss

Carrying extra weight on your body puts stress on your joints, especially the hips, knees and ankles. Losing weight will relieve some of the pressure from your joints and as a result lessen your knee pain.

7) Medications

Certain medicines, such as ibuprofen, are great for joint pain relief. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs will aid in relieving joint swelling and stiffness, and prescribed muscle relaxants can help in reducing muscle spasms. These can be hard on your liver but in the short term can be very helpful.

8) Alternative medical treatments

Alternative practices such as Acupuncture, Massage and Chiropractic can not only enhance the range of movement of your joints, but also help alleviate pain and prevent it.

9) Herbal Supplements

There are many kinds of herbal supplements on the market that claim to be able to reduce joint pain. Some of the herbs touted for arthritis pain include boswellia, bromelain, devil’s claw, ginkgo, stinging nettle, and thunder god vine. Be sure to check the quality of the ingredients in the supplement.

10) Get plenty of Sleep and Rest
